A blog without an audience is like a car without wheels. Neither really works. So even if your blog looks magnificent and your articles are pure poetry, not having an audience really defeats the purpose. Besides writing great content, though, there are some other easy steps you need to take in order to keep your blog buzzing.
Make it easy for your readers to stay up-to-date by letting them subscribe to your blog. One way to do this is to create a button that allows them to bookmark it hassle free. Another great option is supplying a spot for them to enter their e-mail address. This way every time you publish something new, they find out immediately via an e-mail update. Incentivizing your audience never hurts either. Hopefully your content gives people enough reason to pay attention. Network with other bloggers. Every blogger is looking for more readers than they had yesterday. Help another blogger achieve this by sharing some of their articles on your site and directing your readers to go there. Have the blogger do the same for you in exchange. Stay active. It’s not enough to post on your blog every week or so. This can’t possibly keep someone’s interest when they have millions of other blogs that are updated daily, sometimes more than once. You should also comment on other people’s blogs. Leave comments, contribute to discussions, give advice of your own, etc. Doing this can attract people who might otherwise not have found your blog. Even if they don’t like what you have to say, there’s a good chance they’ll click on your blog to read more.
Building a blog is one thing. It can be done in about twenty minutes flat. Building your audience, on the other hand, is not so easy. Maintaining that audience is even harder. Give your readers something they want to read and make it as easy as possible for them to know when it’s there. Stay active and work with other bloggers, too, and you’ll have a readership you can count on.
